Hi all,

These are some of the most useful links for those interested in following the current eruption in Iceland …

You can see the effect the eruption is having on air travel by looking at this screenshot from Radarvirtuel.com

And a bit later on … the skies are clearing …

Overviews of the area are of course available via Wikipedia …. use with care!

Nearby Katla has been showing signs of unrest since 1999 and geologists have concerns that it might erupt in the near future. Particularly, monitoring has been intensified following the March 2010 eruption of volcano beneath the Eyjafjallajökull glacier.

Webcams and Images :

There are some active webcams nearby …obviously these may be subject to seismic activity in the area!

On Katla – a live cam (appears to be down as of 19/04/10

This cam is (I think) at Hvolsvelli near the eruption, and this one is at Valahnúk

These cams are from the Icelandic Met Office in Reykjavík

I’m not quite sure where these cams at http://www.mulakot.net/myndavelar.html are sited, but they offer very large high quality inages.

High quality webcams from Vodafone Iceland.

A new Flickr group for the volcano.

Earthquake/Seismic Activity :

You can see the latest seismic activity in the area here, again at the Icelandic Met Office . Both the map and the corresponding graph are updated every five minutes.
